I have the honour to acknowledge the
receipt of your despatch of 12th June No.172
regarding the request of Mr. C. H. Gale of the
Public Works Department to be allowed to rettre
from the public service in July, and to confirm
15-5-18 my telegram of the August in which I
insert date
informed you that I approved of the action which
you have taken in the matter.
(2) I shall be glad if you will be so good
as to inform Mr. Gale that I have received his
memorial but that I see ho reason to intervene ont
his behalf.

In view of Mr. Gale's request that my
decision might be notified by telegram the cost
of which he is prepared to defray, I shall be

the cost of my telegram and if you will cause the sum in
question to be refunded to this office.
